金融危机的大背景，加上故事的发生地荒蛮无度的澳洲沙漠，让无助的人与走投无路的人性，从一开始便经受着严峻而巨大的考验和捶打。这部出自影片《动物王国》的导演大卫·米肖德的西部惊悚新作，无论从卖相上还是从内容的实质，皆勾起人们不小的兴趣。尤其是产自英伦的澳洲硬汉盖·皮尔斯和英伦大帅哥罗伯特·帕丁森的组合，颇让人浮想联翩。事实上，早在影片爆出海报部分剧照和预告片时，就已经给观众们以及这两位主演的粉丝们足够的吸引力了。尤其是后者罗伯特·帕丁森，曾经凭借《哈利波特5》中的精彩亮相，以及随后《暮光之城》系列里的精湛表现，依然让其成为风靡欧美乃至世界影坛的一线偶像巨星。然而，此番破相出演的他想必会令一些女粉丝伤心。但观其在这部西部惊悚片的表现，无论从外形上的巨大反差，还是演技方面的进步，都可谓精进不小。曾经的“白面吸血书生”也有阳刚糙汉子的一面。
而再度自编自导的澳洲才俊大卫·米肖德，在凭借《动物王国》收获2010年的圣丹斯电影节的评审团大奖之后，可谓风生水起。如今则以一部非典型的西部片形式，浓郁的以暴制暴的风格，加上浓重的惊悚元素，将这个残酷现实下人性演变和寻找出路的故事展现出来。这部投资仅百万余美元的独立影片，已然凭借其不错的成色，在戛纳影展上收获口碑。
