谢丽尔·斯特雷德著有3本畅销书《走出荒野》、专栏文章集《最美的小事》、小说《火炬》。《走出荒野》一书版权已售巴西、德国、法国及中国台湾等十几个国家和地区。本书被奥普拉·温弗瑞选为“奥普拉读书会2.0”的第一本书。谢丽尔的第一本小说《火炬》入选美国五大湖区最佳图书奖，并被媒体选为太平洋西北地区作者年度十佳图书。她从2010年3月起开始为The Rumpus.net撰写专栏“Dear Sugar”，文章还发表在纽约时报杂志、华盛顿邮报杂志、Vogue、密苏里评论等杂志。
◎影片评价
1.这部片子很容易让人想到西恩潘的《into the wild》。同样是遭遇家庭不幸受到创伤，同样是逃离社会，只身前往荒野，用肌体的劳累和疼痛来自愈。只不过，主角一个是女人，一个是男人，一个最后重生，一个最后往生。这两部公路电影都以正确的方式向我们示范了如何才能让一个绝对主角在荒野中生存的两个多小时丰满起来。
2.剧情看似薄弱的徒步旅行片《涉足荒野》，也被她以强大的演技支撑起来。无论是素颜扮丑，还是大尺度激情戏，她的敬业精神足以担得起奥斯卡影后的殊荣。从母亲去世、婚姻破裂的绝望主妇，到刚刚踏上旅途时满是慌乱与自嘲的菜鸟行者，再到经过酷暑严寒、躲过响尾蛇和黑熊、尝尽路边美景和寂寞后的硬朗女汉子，一路走来，观众明显感受到她的气场在不断变化。
3.涉足荒野,我是2015年看的电影,被吸引了,女主角好面熟,查询原来是俏政律佳人的女主角.老演员了。被片尾曲打动.（if i could），保罗西蒙！我有些泪崩了，仿佛几十年的东西都要涌出来，就像片中女主角在树林里遇见那个小男孩，我就知道她会跪下、落泪。。。很快又看了第二遍。开始查询PCT，这时找到了一个中国姑娘张诺娅，今年又看了一部《林中漫步》。这部电影激发了我对徒步的兴趣、欲望。就这样一步一步接近，虽然我依然离真正的徒步还很远，虽然我已经每天坚持步行5公里已有3年。但那都只是康复训练的一部分。我甚至设想了一个十年计划。还有一个问题，那就是中国有没有可能也搞个类似的PCT，如果有，就可以先练练手。毕竟美国太远了，去一趟不是说走就能走的。
