影片的故事发生在波士顿，巴恩斯扮演的尼克是一位意大利裔的美国年轻人，踌躇满志的他加入波士顿黑手党，决心开创一番事业，却发现这个犯罪组织早已不复昔日之勇。

尼克是个野心勃勃的街头罪犯，为了爬上更高的位置，他效命于横行波士顿街头的义大利黑帮，经过几年的磨鍊，尼克终于从一个小小的门徒，成为理想中的顶尖罪犯。虽然身份地位不同了，但凡事都敢要求的尼克，渐渐与帮派老大有了金钱上的利益纠纷，让尼克多了几分潜在的危险性…。
