◎幕后花絮
本片改编自2010年出版的同名畅销书，此书曾登上《纽约时报》畅销书榜首。传教士陶德-伯波在书中记录了四岁儿子讲述自己游览天堂的见闻。虽然一些基督教徒批评这本书没有任何事实依据，无神论者苏珊-雅各比认为其缺乏基本的逻辑，但该书依然在出版不到一年就热卖20万册，并连续四年销量不俗。市场嗅觉敏锐的索尼电影公司在2011年买下了该书的电影改编版权，找来《勇敢的心》的编剧兰道尔-华莱士担任导演。从小，华莱士的母亲就带领他去教堂，了解上帝。他听了福音布道家比利-格拉汉姆的许多演讲。在田纳西州的小教堂中，华莱士被赞美诗感动，希望以后有机会能与别人分享这些珍贵的感受。《天堂真的存在》无疑给了他千载难逢的机会。在第一次听到伯波家庭的事迹后，与大多数人一样，华莱士有着满腹疑问。通过公司，他认识了陶德，了解到他是如此诚实和脚踏实地的人，而且并不在乎外人怎么看待自己。陶德有许多工作，并非依靠教堂工作维生，不是那种只有付钱才会做牧师的人。这些都令华莱士印象深刻，并开始了解并相信他所讲述的故事。
华莱士说，本片并非为了传道，更多关注的是人的内心，让人了解神的作为远非人类可以控制和了解的。他本人就在拍摄期间有了奇迹般的经历。在接拍后，他因为严重感染接受了手术，并被告知需要截肢，但后来他们找到办法避免于此。在拍摄期间，华莱士度过母亲离世的艰难时日，坚信亲人能在天堂开始更好的生活。“我相信，这个电影能给基督徒们真正的鼓励和为他们对上帝的渴望代言。它也会给那些没有信仰和心存疑窦的人感受爱和希望的机会。”
